Dodge Challenger Leads in Initial Quality

The ChryslerĄŻs new 2015 300 ranks highest among Large Cars in J.D. PowerĄŻs 2015 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS).

For a second consecutive year and for the third time in five years, surveyed owners placed the Dodge Challenger at the top of the Midsize Sporty Car segment in initial quality.

IQS is based on responses from more than 84,000 owners of new 2015 model year vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership.

The study asks customers to identify issues with their vehicleĄŻs design, as well as defects.

The Chrysler 300 was updated for the 2015 model year and previously ranked among the top three vehicles in the Large Car segment in 2012 and 2013.

The Dodge Challenger was totally updated for the 2015 model year with a new standard eight-speed transmission, all-new interior, exterior updates and new safety technologies.

It previously achieved the highest IQS ranking among Midsize Sporty Cars in 2011 and 2014, as well as being named a segment leader in the J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study.

The 2015 Ram 1500 and Chrysler Town & Country also performed well in the IQS study, ranking second in the Large Light Duty Pickup and Minivan segments, respectively. The Town & Country previously achieved the highest IQS ranking among minivans in 2011, 2013 and 2014.

A 7 series race is a racing festival that has 7 different categories of racing. Many people assume that the Honda Indy is just one big Indy car race, but itĄŻs actually an entire weekend of racing! Here are the 7 different kinds of races that are at this yearĄŻs Honda Indy:

Canadian Touring Car Championship

This is a race between vehicles in their original stock street version. Touring cars are designed for passengers and luggageĄ­ regular/everyday vehicles. These cars are commercially available models.

Robby GordonĄŻs SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road (Powered by TRAXXAS)

This race features Outdoorsy high-horsepower trucks that are life-size replicas of Traxxas Remote-Control Monster trucks. However, unlike remote-control toy trucks, they produce 600 horsepower giving them speed of up to 209 kilometres per hour (130 miles per hour). Each off-road course consists of man-made ramps and obstacles that cause the trucks to fly through the air nearly 6 meters off the ground (20 feet) and hundreds of feet down the racetrack. Robby GordonĄŻs SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road trucks are able to race on practically any surface. As of 2014, these trucks will be featured at IndyCar venues.

The Porsche Ultra94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin

?If you have not already figured it out, this race is done in a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The GT3 Cup Challenge is for semi-professional and aspiring professional racers. It is the perfect platform for aspiring drivers to work their way up to the highest levels of the GT competition. The 911 GT3 Cup car has a maximum engine speed of 8,500 rpm (RPM = Revolutions Per Minute: How fast the motor turns per minute).

Cooper Tires USF2000 Powered by Mazda

The USF2000 race is the first step on MazdaĄŻs road to Indy path. It is an important training ground for drivers. The champion receives a scholarship package from Mazda to advance to the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires. Drivers as young as age 15 can enter this competition! The USF2000 cars are open-wheel, single-seat, and open-cockpit cars with front and rear wings. The engine is a Mazda 2-litre Powerplant (4 cylinder) which can take drivers up to 241 kilometres per hour (150 mph).

?Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires

The Pro Mazda Championship features open-wheel, single-seat, and open-cockpit cars with front and rear wings. The cars utilize Mazda Renesis rotary engines which can power cars up to 257 kilometres per hour (160mph). This race is the vital second step for drivers that are working toward the Indy competition. The seriesĄŻ winner gets a scholarship package from Mazda and advances to the Indy Lights race next year.

Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires

?The Indy Lights race is the final step on MazdaĄŻs road to the Honda Indy. The winner is awarded a $750,000 scholarship towards the IndyCar Series. The cars featured at the Indy Lights are, Ą°New state-of-the-art single-seat, open-wheel, Indy car-style chassis manufactured by Dallara Automobili,?complete with paddle shifters, push-to-pass and safety componentsĄ­Ąą as per the official Indy Lights bulletin. According to IndyCar, the vehicles are, Ą°single-seat, open-cockpit cars that feature a 2.2-litre, twin turbocharged, and direct-injected V-6 engine optimized to rev to a maximum of 12,000 RPM with an estimated 500-700 horsepower.Ąą This series is faster than any form of motorsports racing; cars have reached up to 378 kilometres per hour (235mph). The track is known for its superspeedway (a racetrack more than 3.2km in length), and short ovals. Chevrolet Silverado owners are some of the most connected drivers on the road, making up the largest population of OnStar RemoteLink mobile app users.

And theyĄŻre using the app more often than most drivers to check tire pressure, oil levels and remotely start their trucks.

In the near future, Silverado drivers will also have an unprecedented industry-first connection to their trucks called Proactive Alerts, which can predict and notify drivers when certain components need attention ¨C in many cases before vehicle performance is affected.

When using the app, Remote Start and Vehicle Diagnostics are the top two most-used features by Silverado owners. Silverado is also the top model for owners to send directions from their phone to their vehicle.

When it comes to OnStar 4G LTE connectivity, nearly 99 per cent of Silverado owners with access to the service agree to the Terms and Conditions, giving them a three-month or three-gigabyte trial of 4G LTE data.

WhatĄŻs worst: Rearview camera is an option. Hard to believe when itĄŻs standard on many much less expensive vehicles.

WhatĄŻs interesting: The Q5/SQ5 has a choice of powertrains to fit any lifestyle. But for those who value performance, the 354 hp SQ5 is the answer.

The performance variant of AudiĄŻs popular Q5 crossover SUV, the SQ5 has a lot to offer buyers in the entry-luxury market.

The SQ5 is designed especially for those who want a little more pop than the normal Q5, thanks to the supercharged 3.0-litre V6 that produces 354 hp and 346 lb/ft of torque.

This marks the first application of the ĄŽSĄŻ designation on one of AudiĄŻs sport utes. Previously the ĄŽSĄŻ has been reserved strictly for AudiĄŻs car lines.

While you canĄŻt be all things to all people, Audi has attempted to do that in the Q5/SQ5 line with several engine options.

The Q5 Komfort comes with a 220 hp turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, while the Progressiv and Technik trim levels also offer a 240 hp 3.0-litre turbo diesel with 428 lb/ft of grunt as well as a 272 hp 3.0-litre TFSI and a 2.0-litre TFSI hybrid.

Quattro all-wheel drive and an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission with paddle shifters are standard across the board.

What makes the Q5/SQ5 a popular line for Audi is that the vehicles have the characteristics of a sedan along with five-passenger seating and the versatility of an SUV.

We recently had a chance to test the 2015 SQ5 and found that it had many good things going for it. On the performance side, the SQ5 is impressive with great acceleration, good braking and stable handling. Audi lists a 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds.

Natural Resources CanadaĄŻs fuel consumption ratings are 14.1/9.9/12.2 L/100 km city/highway/combined.

With its sport-tuned suspension, the SQ5 can carve tight corners with ease and at the same time offer a comfortable ride as we found even on our pothole-littered roads after a harsh winter in a vehicle clad with huge 21-inch wheels.

The Q5/SQ5 offers a feeling of stability with its quattro permanent all-wheel drive getting exactly the right amount of power to each wheel as required.

In normal driving, 60 per cent of the power is routed to the rear wheels. However, if the wheels of one axle lose grip, drive torque is immediately directed to the other axle to stabilize the vehicle.

On the outside, Audi describes the SQ5 as Ą°sharp without being showyĄą and Ą°sporty without being impractical.Ąą

I find the exterior styling a little uninspiring, but there are a few distinguishing hints, largely in badging, that indicate the SQ5 is something special.

Inside, however, the cabin is wonderfully finished in a simple yet classy way ĄŞ certainly an Audi strong point. The flat bottom steering wheel, sport seats, badges and other touches help set the SQ5 apart from the base models.

While the 2015 Q5 starts at $42,600 in Canada, think of the SQ5 as the top of the food chain in the Q5 lineup.

Our tester had the top-level Technik trim, which adds Homelink, Audi side assist, adaptive front headlights and heated rear seats to the standard Progressiv trim features.

The test vehicle also had a number of options including a navigation package ($2,800), Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System ($1,000), 21-inch five-spoke design wheels ($1,000) and other features that took the as-tested price to $66,890. Add $2,095 for freight and PDI.

Among the standard features on the SQ5 are advance key with push button start, power tailgate, LED taillights, Audi drive select, panoramic power glass sunroof, SIRIUS satellite radio, heated front seats, S sport suspension, rear parking sensors, three-zone climate control, 10-speaker premium sound system, interior LED lighting package, 60/40 split folding rear seats, bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, front fog lights, Bluetooth, heated power adjustable auto-dimming side mirrors and headlight washers.

While the SQ5 is a compact offering, legroom front and rear is quite good. The front sport seats are supportive and comfortable with lots of adjustments and the rear seats slide fore and aft and recline.

With all seats in their upright position, there is 824 litres of cargo space, 1,622 litres with the rear seats folded.

On the safety front, the Q5/SQ5 is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick +, its highest rating thanks to front crash prevention technology.

Perhaps because of the extensive powertrain lineup, the Q5/SQ5 is a sales leader in the competitive compact luxury crossover category where it is pitted against a host of other luxury sport crossovers like the BMW X3, Volvo XC60, Lexus RX 350 F-Sport and even its stablemate, the Porsche Macan.

So for those who value performance in a premium compact crossover the SQ5 is hard to beat.
