SYMPTOM



The center console armrest will not latch properly or stay closed.



PROBABLE CAUSE



The latch hole trim piece is shifted too far forward to engage with the latch mechanism.



CORRECTIVE ACTION



*Apply wool felt to the end of the latch hole trim piece, and install a retainer on the armrest hinge.*

(One roll repairs about 20 vehicles)

DIAGNOSIS



1. Close the center console armrest, and pull up on it in the middle without using the release button.

^ If the armrest doesn't open, this service bulletin does not apply. Continue with normal troubleshooting.



^ If the armrest opens, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.



REPAIR PROCEDURE



1. Move the driver's seat all the way forward, and work from the rear seat.



2. Open the center console armrest.



3. Working from the back to the front, remove the latch hole trim by inserting the trim tool under it, and twisting up on it. Be careful not to scratch



the center console or the latch hole trim.

4. Cut six 5 mm x 10 mm pieces of wool felt.



5. Apply three pieces of wool felt, one on top of the other, above the rear side clip hole. Apply the remaining three pieces of wool felt, one on top



of the other, below the rear side clip hole.



6. Reinstall the latch trim.



7. Remove the three screws from the armrest base.



8. Pull out the armrest base to detach the clips.



9. Remove the two screws that removes the armrest from the armrest hinge.

*10. Trim the retainer as shown, to allow easier installation on the hinge.*



*11. Lay the armrest hinge down. Using needle nose pliers, insert the trimmed retainer into the hinge at the location shown.*



12. Reinstall the armrest to the hinge.



13. Reinstall the armrest base to the armrest.



14. Close the center console armrest, and make sure it latches properly.
