REPAIR PROCEDURE A

NOTE:

This repair addresses the noise located between the roof side rail stiffener and the roof skin.

1. Cover the center console with a blanket, fender covers, or equivalent.

2. Remove the headliner:

22

^ Refer to the appropriate service manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword HEADLINER, and select Headliner

Removal/Installation from the list.

3. Remove the moonroof frame:

^ Refer to the appropriate service manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword MOON, and select

Replacement from the list.

4. Use a 10 mm or 3/8 in. diameter Rotabroach Hole Cutter to drill a hole into the roof side rail stiffener, next to the most forward dimple spot. Do

not drill deeper than 1 mm, or you may damage the roof skin.

NOTE:

^ Do not use a drill bit.

^ Make sure you use a magnet to remove the

drilled-out disc that falls into the channel of the

side rail stiffener.

23

5. Add sealant into the hole that you drilled in the roof side rail stiffener and fill the cavity marked in red.

6. Apply additional sealant between the roof side rail stiffener and the roof skin to fill from the other side of the cavity.

7. Test-drive the vehicle to confirm that the noise is gone before reinstalling the moonroof frame and headliner.

8. Reinstall the moonroof frame:

^ Refer to the appropriate service manual, or

side rail stiffener, apply the sealant for 104 mm. Fill

the cavity marked in red.

extension, where the roof side rail stiffener contacts

the roof rail

1. Cover the center console with a blanket, fender covers, or equivalent.

2. Remove the headliner:

^ Refer to the appropriate service manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword HEADLINER, and select

Headliner Removal/Installation from the list.

Make sure you have a putty knife with a

blade that is at least 4 in. wide. The putty knife will

be used as a shield to prevent damage to the roof

skin during this repair. The nail will be used to pry

and separate the roof side rail stiffener from the

roof rail.

2. Place the putty knife in the working area between

the roof skin and roof rail to prevent the nail from

damaging the roof.

29

3. Insert the nail into the rear side of the roof rail.

Drive it in using a hammer until it contacts the edge

of the roof side rail stiffener. Mark this spot at the

head of the nail, and then drive it in an additional

5 mm after contact with the edge of stiffener to

separate the two panels.

4. Remove the nail using vice grips and a hammer, if needed.

NOTE:

Be careful not to damage the roof skin during removal.

5. Test-drive the vehicle to confirm the noise is gone

before reinstalling the moonroof and the headliner.

^ Refer to the appropriate service manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword MOON, and select

Moonroof Frame and Drain Tube Replacement from the list.

7. Reinstall the headliner:
