This Is Not A Beautiful Car

2017 Canadian Black Book Best Retained Value Award winner - Full-size Van category. Formed in October 1992, the company has played a pioneering role in introducing premium quality caviar to the Canadian market and educating Canadians about this unique and exotic delicacy. Standard highlights in the premium quality "AVANTGARDE" version of this innovative electric car include bi-xenon headlamps, COMAND APS, an active park assist for automatic parking and the THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control system. In line with the strategy used for hybrid development, Mercedes engineers have also developed a modular system for electric vehicles with battery and fuel-cell. The Sprinter van also will have a 2.1-liter, four-cylinder diesel with the 9-speed transmission. Under the hood is a turbocharged Ecotec 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. All the diesel models have a battery management system while both the engine and transmission are designed for low fuel consumption and low emissions. We purchased the Winnebago View 2.5 years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

However, five years or 100,000 miles for its powertrain warranty is longer than most. Another function enables the driver to monitor charging progress and therefore the present range available, via the internet or a smartphone, for example. So if the electric car is parked for a long period, recharging can be set to take place at times when electricity is cheaper, for example during the night. A new addition to Mercedes-Benz's portfolio of electric cars is the near-series Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-CELL Plus Concept - a compact model that meets all the needs of daily motoring with a total range of up to 600 kilometres. Key components have also been proven in Mercedes-Benz fuel-cell vehicles, for example, allowing Mercedes engineers to draw on the experience gained from more than 4.5 million test kilometres in everyday use. The energy accumulator takes the form of a lithium-ion battery from Deutsche Accumotive, which enables local emission-free driving up to a range of 100 kilometres.

Using a single-phase 230-volt network, it takes around eight hours' charging time to accumulate the energy required for a range of 100 km (NEDC). There is a small possibility of a battery exploding during the charging process if you don't connect the cables properly (causing a spark) and there is a bunch of hydrogen gas around the battery (car batteries emit hydrogen gas when they discharge) - this is much more of an issue with cars that haven't been driven for a long time than if you drive your Sprinter 2500 regularly and simply forgot to turn your lights off. All cables are clearly colour-coded, and safety warnings are placed on high-voltage components. All high-voltage components are connected in an electric loop. All the key components of electric cars are appropriate for a modular approach - for example, the electric drive of the Mercedes A-Class E-CELL is also used in the B-Class F-CELL. The concept vehicle presented at the 2011 Frankfurt International Motor Show provides a foretaste of the series which is to go into production in 2014. The Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-CELL Plus Concept adds an all-purpose battery-powered vehicle with Range Extender to Mercedes-Benz's range of electric vehicles. Mercedes-Benz applies the same high safety standards in the A-Class E-CELL as in all its other series-produced vehicles.

The benefits include the efficient use of shared parts in all the brand's electric vehicles. The electric drive system has demonstrated readiness for series production in extensive practical testing programs. The high-voltage system is also automatically completely disconnected when the ignition switch is placed in the "off" position, or in the event of possible faults. This is made possible by the combination of a powerful electric drive generating a peak power output of 100 kW and a continuous output of 70 KW with a 50 kW petrol engine. To make vehicle handling and control as easy, safe and transparent as possible for the driver, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-CELL has its own control and display concept specifically designed for the requirements of an electric car. External features of this battery-powered electric car include the standard polar silver painted body and an "E-CELL" sign in silver lettering on the boot. The new A-Class E-CELL also has plenty to offer in terms of Mercedes-quality equipment. While the Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-CELL batteries are being charged at home or at a roadside charging point, the interior can be pre-heated or cooled to a temperature set by the driver.
