With over 1,000 variants, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has one of the widest choice of derivatives on the market - but which one is the right size for you and your business? The BlueTEC engine technology has also been demonstrating its capabilities in Mercedes-Benz trucks and buses for almost ten years now. At 61,900 vehicles, Daimler Trucks achieved a new sales record in Latin America. In 1886 Carl Benz was granted Patent DRP 37435 for his Patent-Motorwagen in Mannheim, and at almost the same time Gottlieb Daimler was completing his motorised carriage in Cannstatt near Stuttgart. I recently handed back my company car following 30 years of subsidised motoring and suddenly I found myself in the market for a used car for the very first time. The first two sit on a wheelbase of 3,200mm but the largest model is extended between the wheels to 3,430mm. Then there is the high-roof model that is available in long wheelbase form only and pushes the load height up from a standard 1,902mm to 2,328mm. The upshot of all this is a potential load volume spread from 4.65 to 6.49 cubic meters. It allows the Sprinter Chassis Cab to adjust to whatever load you're carrying, and makes it the most intelligent commercial vehicle on the road.
BlueTEC diesel engines, marking the first-ever use of super-clean BlueTEC technology in the commercial van market. The Sprinter features a class-leading 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel engine as standard equipment, which has an approximate take rate of 50% in the USA. The BlueTEC diesel engine is as clean as a modern gasoline engine. The undersquare engine (bore x stroke: 83 x 92 mm) is based on an aluminum crankcase with a V angle of 72 degrees. With an 83 mm bore and a 99 mm stroke, the engine features an undersquare configuration in the interests of high tractive power. Then for 1981, the 4.5-liter engine was dropped in favor of a new all-aluminum 3.8-liter V8 rated at just 155 horsepower, and the names changed to 380SL and 380SLC. But over in Europe, a 5.0-liter, 240-horsepower version of that engine was presented in a 500SL and a few of those trickled into the United States in a developing "gray market." In 1982, a driver-side front airbag debuted, but the car would otherwise remain virtually unchanged through the1985 model year.
