Body - Tick/Tapping Noise From R/H Rear Wheelwell Area

Right Rear Wheelwell Area Clicks, Taps, or Ticks



SYMPTOM



The right rear wheelwell area clicks, taps, or ticks.



PROBABLE CAUSE



There is insufficient clearance between the right rear inner wheelwell stiffener and the wheelwell arch.



CORRECTIVE ACTION



Increase the clearance between the right rear wheelwell stiffener and the wheelwell arch.



REQUIRED MATERIALS



3M Ultrapro Urethane Seam Sealer:

DIAGNOSIS



Test-drive the vehicle at 20-45 mph over short bumps or uneven road surfaces.



Do you hear a clicking, tapping, or ticking noise from the right rear wheelwell area?



Yes - Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.



No - This service bulletin does not apply. Continue with normal troubleshooting procedures.



REPAIR PROCEDURE



1. Remove the trunk floor.

2. Remove the tool box spacer.



3. Detach the clips, and release the hooks and the tabs by pulling upon the trunk rear trim panel, then remove the panel.



4. Partially remove the trunk lid weatherstrip by pulling it off as needed.



5. Detach the clips and release the Velcro fasteners, then remove the trunk front trim panel.

6. Detach the clips and remove the cargo hook buttons, then remove the right trunk side trim panel.



7. Reach through the diamond shaped access hole and force a flat-tipped screwdriver or a pick between the inner wheelwell stiffener and the



wheelwell arch.



8. Separate the two panels to create a gap. Make sure not to separate the two spot welds.



9. Test-drive the vehicle to make sure the noise is gone before sealing the gap and reinstalling the parts.



10. Apply 3M Ultrapro Urethane Seam Sealer to the gap between the inner wheelwell stiffener and the wheelwell arch gap.



11. Reinstall the right side trim panel.



12. Reinstall the front trim panel.



13. Reinstall the trunk lid weatherstrip.

NOTE:



Locate the painted alignment mark on the trunk lid weatherstrip. Align the painted mark in the center of the trunk lid opening, and install the



trunk lid weatherstrip all the way around in the direction shown. Make sure there are no wrinkles in the weatherstrip.



14. Reinstall the rear trim panel.



15. Reinstall the tool box spacer.



16. Reinstall the trunk floor.
