118

09-058

January 7, 2010

Applies To:

2010 MDX - From VIN 2HNYD2...AH500066 thru 2HNYD2...AH501207

Safety Recall:

A-Pillar Trim Bolts May Be Missing

(Supersedes 09-058, dated December 23, 2009, to revise the information marked by the asterisks)

*REVISION SUMMARY

Under WARRANTY INFORMATION, the failed part number was changed.*

BACKGROUND

The bolt securing each A-pillar trim may be missing. In the case of a side curtain airbag deployment, the A-pillar trim could dislodge and cause an

injury.

CLIENT NOTIFICATION

Fewer than 10 potentially affected vehicles have been sold. Owners of these vehicles were called and asked to return to the selling dealers to have

their vehicles checked.

The balance of the vehicles affected by this campaign are in dealer inventory. As a matter of federal law, these vehicles must be checked/repaired

before they are sold.

Not all vehicles within the ~applies to" VIN range are affected by this campaign. To verify vehicle eligibility, you must make sure the vehicle is

shown as eligible on a VIN status inquiry.

In addition, check for a punch mark above the first character of the engine compartment VIN. A punch mark in that location means this campaign

has already been completed.

Should a dealership sell an unrepaired vehicle that subsequently causes an injury or damage because of the recalled item, the dealership will be

solely responsible to the damaged party, and will be required to defend and indemnify American Honda for any resulting claims. To see if a vehicle

is affected by this campaign, do a VIN status inquiry before selling it.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Check to see if the A-pillar trim bolts are installed. If they are, make sure they are properly torqued; if they are missing, install new bolts, and make

sure they are properly torqued.

PARTS INFORMATION

NOTE:

Because of the limited availability of A-pillar trim bolts, do not order any bolts until a vehicle is checked and found to have one or both A-pillar

trim bolts missing.
