Hop Onboard The Aston Martin DB11 AMR For A High-Speed Autobahn Run

178 miles per hour on an open highway is pretty darn fast.

Just when we didn't think the DB11 could get much more enticing, Aston Martin went ahead and revealed the AMR version. And it didn't do it in the UK, either: the British automaker chose to present its new V12 super-GT in Germany at its new Nurburgring test center. And as if the track itself weren't a location suitable enough, you know what runs near it. There's a good stretch of unrestricted Autobahn in the circuit's vicinity, as this writer discovered while driving supercharged Jaguars there a few years ago.
The guys at Carfection didn't miss the chance to take the new DB11 AMR out there to stretch its legs, too. And they brought a camera or two along for the ride.

For the Aston Martin Racing version, Gaydon amped the 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 up to 630 horsepower – 30 more than the existing twelve-cylinder DB11. It also recalibrated the transmission, freed up the exhaust a little more, and hunkered down the steering and suspension, too. The result is a 0-62 mph time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed quoted at 208 mph. Carfection put that to the test in this minute-long clip, blissfully devoid of any narration that might distract from the experience. And while they didn't manage to hit the top speed, they did reach an impressive indicated 287 km/h. That's 178 mph to us yanks, and pretty darn fast by any standard – especially for a public highway.
