Technical Service

This Service Information bulletin supersedes Service Measure M41 200 03 dated July 2003.

SUBJECT

Paint Damaged Under Hood

MODEL

R50 (Cooper) and R53 (Cooper S)

SITUATION

Some MINI owners may complain that the paint in the area of the hood strikers is damaged.

CAUSE

Movement of the hood against the seal on the top of the radiator shroud can eventually rub through the paint on the underside of the hood.

CORRECTION

Protective shields, part numbers 51 48 7 126 245/246, have been developed to prevent this paint damage.

If the paint has been worn through to bare metal, touch up the affected area with zinc based brushable primer.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the screw from the expanding plastic pin that secures the hood pad on both sides.

2. Remove the white plastic strip from the double-sided tape on the shields and install the shields between the hood pad and the hood, pressing

the double-sided tape firmly into place.

3. Reinstall the expanding pins and screws.
