Since then the importance of the Californian facility has grown to such an extent that the 1200 square metres of rented space on Cowan Streetin Irvineare no longer sufficient. Stuttgart, May 30, 2008 - Mercedes-Benz is moving its Southern Californian advanced design studio from Irvine to a newly-acquired, spacious facility near Carlsbad, in order to strengthen its creative base in the U.S. In January 2008 this compact character will be making its world debut at the Detroit Auto Show, providing a vision of the shape of SUVs to come. With an external compressor, the install is a maybe a tiny bit more complicated because you have to make sure the pressure tubing will swivel with the seat, but otherwise running the air line is just as easy as running wires. The detachable body parts, in gloss sterling silver, produce a charming contrast and give the study an even more exclusive look.
With the German and international press still lavishing praise on the red touring car racer, power-hungry Mercedes customers were already requesting that AMG tune their 300 SEL 6.3. Despite the fact that the saloon had maintained its status as the fastest German car in series production ever since it was unveiled in 1968, squeezing even more power from the standard 184-kW/250-hp eight-cylinder unit was an effortless task for AMG. The outstandingly clear layout of the body and the good all-round visibility, combined with the raised seating position, increases the vehicle’s suitability for everyday on-road use and ensures relaxed driving even in dense city traffic. It is a great achievement they managed to house the big "V" in the restrictive B-Class engine bay without any major tweaks to the body and powertrain. There's not much to debate on the exterior design of the car, as it sports a great deal of camouflage.
Here the company’s unmistakable design idiom, with its interplay of taut lines and large, expansive surfaces, is combined with the typical body features of a functional off-road vehicle, such as short overhangs, an upright front end, slim roof pillars, a steeply raked windscreen and taut roof lines. This element, with its rich contrasts, extends across the full width of the interior and divides the main body of the dashboard into three horizontal planes. On the one hand the Vision GLK FREESIDE offers a high-quality and comfortable interior with impressive materials and precise detailing. High quality materials (there was never a time BMW scrimped on interior quality) abound the cabin, which really justifies the then-new price tag of P4M. There was a choice of three power ratings: 206 kW/280 hp, 221 kW/300 hp or 235 kW/320 hp. This enabled a top speed of 265 km/h on the race track, compared to the standard-production saloon's 221 km/h.
235 km/h for the 320 hp model. “The Vision GLK illustrates the logical way in which our extremely successful model strategy can be continued in the SUV segment,” commented Dr. Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG. Treating the natural leather in this way not only produces a stunning look but gives it a velvety soft, skin-friendly, easy-grip surface. The upper area is trimmed in black leather and encompasses the instrument cluster and the static COMAND APS central display. The seats and the lower part of the door are trimmed in specially coated white leather which, like the “diamond-white magno” paintwork, has a matte gloss finish. The Vision GLK FREESIDE’s convincing design concept is reinforced by the special effect “diamond-white magno” paintwork. Extremely attractive in stylistic terms, this vision of a future compact SUV, a vehicle packed with character, succeeds by combining the angular design of the original G-Class with typical design features from the contemporary Mercedes-Benz passenger car range. A pair of creative trainees working at the Mercedes-Benz Rastatt factory have recently come up with these mad machine: the Mercedes-Benz B 55. The car is just a prototype and is not intended for serial production, so don't think you could buy one (instead, wait for the AMG versions of the future A/B lineups).
Finally, a proper test prototype of the future S-Klasse W 222 has been spotted. 5.0 litres, plus the absence of adequate tyres ment a short life for the 6.9, not to mention the 6.8. What is quite funny is the fact that a prototype of a 300 SEL 6.9 AMG still exists in Finland and it is, as the owner states, in a very good shape. The engine displacement went up by 0.5 litres, reaching 6.8 litres. But 6.8 was not enough, so the things went higher, up to 6.9 litres. Nobody had thought it possible, but the 300 SEL 6.8 AMG crossed the line in second place on its very first outing, winning its class in the process. And the company didn’t have to wait long to taste success, their first real breakthrough arriving in 1971. A Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 modified by AMG took a surprise class victory in the 24-hour race at Spa in Belgium, finishing in second place overall. BEIJING/STUTTGART : July 29, 2014 - Mercedes-Benz for the first time has started production of a long-wheelbase version of the C-Class. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 - at that time the fast German-built car in series production - provided the technical platform for the AMG racing car.
