During the F-CELL World Drive, Mercedes-Benz will not only be demonstrating the performance of its vehicles, but at the same time will also make use of the tour to increase global awareness of the potential of fuel cell technology. With the F-CELL World Drive, Mercedes-Benz wants to prove the high degree of maturity which has been achieved with fuel cell technology and also highlight its potential on a global basis. Mercedes-Benz recognised this potential at an early stage, launching the first vehicle with fuel cell drive, the NECAR 1, as early as 1994. Since that time, the company has made very significant progress in the development of this technology, enabling it in the meantime to reach a very high level of technical maturity.


Mercedes-Benz is launching its first series-produced electric car with a fuel cell on the road: the new B-Class F-CELL. In addition, the B-Class F-CELL is powered by the same electric motor as used in the new A-Class E-CELL. With the B-Class F-CELL, the A-Class E-CELL, the smart fortwo electric drive and the Vito E-CELL, the company offers four locally zero-emission vehicles, all of which are equally ready for series production. Sprinter and offers two floorplan choices, the SS-Agile is based on the shorter 144" wheelbase Sprinter, and the SS-Ideal is also based on the 144" wheelbase Sprinter and boosts a rear slideout room that provides an extra 3 feet of living space. The work van aspect of the Sprinter clashes with the “Mercedes-Benz” nameplate in the plastics used on its dash, which are fine but maybe could have been of a better quality; we noticed some creakiness around the touchscreen infotainment system which just shouldn’t be there, even in a work vehicle. Daimler benefits here from the expertise it has accumulated through many years of research work.
