Service Action: Replace Battery

SITUATION
Analysis of vehicle data have revealed that the battery service life has been considerably reduced on certain vehicles. This Service Action replaces
the battery on these vehicles.

Copies of the customer notification letter and Q&A are included.
To minimize customer's inconvenience caused by this Service Action, you may pick-up (and deliver after repair) from the customer's home, or
provide appropriate alternative transportation.
Customers will be impressed when you return their vehicles cleaned inside and out and with a full tank of gas. Reimbursement information for the
vehicle fueling and valet costs can be found in the Warranty section of this bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves R50 (Cooper) vehicles which were produced from February 1, 2003 to March 31, 2002-2006.
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer
Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
PROCEDURE
Replace vehicle battery refer to repair instructions RA 61 21 010.
Reinitialize both power windows. To initialize, raise the window glass and keep the switch depressed in the "Lift" position for approx. 5 seconds and
then release. Refer to repair instruction RA 67 62 (Notes on initializing power window unit (front).

PARTS INFORMATION
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 25. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (MD 20-036)
and:
a. emboss your MINI dealer warranty number in
the middle of the label (1);
b. punch out code number 25 printed on the label
(2) and,
c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on
top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Reimbursement for this Service Action will be via normal claim entry utilizing the following information.
MINI RE-FUELING COSTS
MINI a Division of BMW of North America, LLC, will provide reimbursement to have the gas tank topped off once, as required, for each vehicle
affected by this Service Action.
VALET COSTS

MINI a Division of BMW of North America, LLC, will provide reimbursement for vehicle valet services (pick up & delivery) for each vehicle
affected by this Service Action. Attach the appropriate receipt to the repair order.
RENTAL VEHICLES
Dealers participating in the MINI Dealer Administered Customer Assistance Program may self authorize claims for reimbursement of rental costs
